Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MACP)


The Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) degree programme is a fully online programme, designed for persons preparing to serve as Christian Counsellors, both in the church and in the wider society. The programme is structured as a stepping-stone to doctoral studies in Counselling Psychology and other specialized areas of Psychology. Students will be required to completed eighteen (18) graduate level courses, a comprehensive exam and two units of practicum totalling 350 service hours. 

Students without a counselling background will be required to complete five perquisite courses.

Since 1987 the Caribbean Graduate School’s Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology programme has been training Christian counsellors for service in both the Church and the Caribbean society. CGST was the first institution in Jamaica to offer Counselling Psychology at the masters level. The counselling programme exhibits three dominant features: its theological underpinning, its theoretical knowledge, and its hands-on experience. 


This degree falls under the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences.

Degree Awarded: The qualification granted upon completion is a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Counselling Psychology.

Duration of Course: : 2 ½ years

Basic Entry Requirements:

 We require a first degree (with a GPA of 2.7 or above) from an accredited University or College. Students will be interviewed by the head of the Department of Behavioural and Social Sciences.

Applicants with over 10 year’s experience in patoral ministry or counselling services may be considered for matriculation under the mature entry classification, provided other conditions are met.

Pre-Requisites:

Prerequisites are necessary for successfully completing advanced level courses in any master’s programme. The MATS requires students to successfully complete the following prerequisites with at least a “B” grade:

  •    Effective Research Writing
  •     Developmental Psychology
  •    Social Psychology
  •    Abnormal Psychology
  •   History and Systems of Psychology
